Unique Student Housing in Bucharest, designed by DRS-Architects, achieved BREEAM New Construction 2016 certification at the Design Stage with an Outstanding rating and a score of 89.81 percent — the highest level of the scheme and a rare result in Romania. Certification consultancy and environmental studies were provided by ADP, and the process, carried out between 2020 and 2022, covered an extensive set of analyses: energy and thermal comfort modelling, daylight analysis, a feasibility study for solar panels, calculation of the building's carbon footprint and a whole-life cost-benefit analysis of the main construction systems. It also included a site biodiversity plan, a construction waste management plan, a local mobility plan, an accessibility strategy, lift efficiency analysis, building thermography, acoustic measurements and a building user guide. For DRS-Architects the project turns a stated principle into measured evidence: sustainability is a decision taken in the earliest design stages, not a chapter added at the end.
